ALEXANDRA AND BENJAMIN’S WEDDING AT THE WELFARE CAFE

The first thing that comes to mind when I think back on Alexandra and Benjamin’s Hill County wedding at the Welfare Cafe this past October is golden light and wildflowers. The night before the wedding rain was predicted, but the skies cleared and the vast Texas sky was the perfect blue above them… and the most beautiful light made everything so lovely. These two are perfect for one another for so many reasons. They are both accomplished scholars, Benjamin holds a Ph.D.in music history and is now the professor of music history at the University of North Texas, and Alexandra holds a Ph.D. in art history and is the doctoral curatorial fellow in the Department of European Painting and Sculpture at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They both come across at first as being very reserved, but when you get to know them, their mischievous side comes out, which I think you will see in these images. And they both love the Hill Country, specifically the Welfare Cafe, which is why they chose to have their nuptials there. They had previously spent time vacationing there and the property holds a special place in their hearts, and it is easy to see why, as it is absolutely lovely and charming and the food was just to die for! So many little things made this wedding unique… like the bespoke paper goods, featuring adorable farm animals, the simple and rustic florals on the crisp white linens, the tables with the red orange chairs, the grooms perfect blue suit and white tie, the bride’s beaded BHLDN dress, and the strudel that served ass their wedding cake, just to name a few. When this couple said “I do” under the amazing tree on the property everyone felt their joy… perfection.

MERCEDES AND JASON’S GORGEOUS WEDDING AT THE LA CIMA CLUB

Mercedes and Jason are a beautiful couple… I blogged their romantic engagement session, and Mercedes gorgeous bridals shot at the Melrose Hotel, and I think it’s high time I shared their wedding day. Their ceremony outdoors on a beautiful August afternoon with golden light and their chic reception with a Dallas skyline in the background were elegant and full of passion just like the couple themselves. Their families were so full of love on their day and it is evident when you look at the photos. I am not sure I have ever seen a bride exhibit such a full range of emotion in one day, from tears of joy to hilarious laughter… It was obvious she was overjoyed to be marrying the man of her dreams, and the way Jason looked at her would melt anyone’s heart.

There is something special about the time the bride and her girls spend getting ready… It’s always one of my favorite things to photograph about the day. It’s so lovely to see female friends supporting each other and fussing tenderly over each other… celebrating love and beauty… and friendship.

We started out at the Omni hotel and traveled from there a short distance to the La Cima Club. There we settled in for more congenial fussing over the bride…mother, daughter, sister, and friends all doing their part…and a lot of laughter. Of course the putting on of the wedding dress is a time honored tradition…and for good reason… it takes a village.

Mercedes and her Dad obviously have such a tender and loving relationship… I just love the look on his face when he sees his little girl as a bride for the first time.

While the girls were getting ready, the guys were having photos taken and looking very handsome. They were also up to some pre-ceremony shenanigans involving the Mustangs of Las Colinas that we won’t mention… and one industrious groomsman even had to sew on a button.

Mercedes and Jason’s ceremony was in such a lovely spot, by the water with full benefit of the golden afternoon light.

When the ceremony ended and the guests were headed in for the reception, it was the perfect time for some outdoor (and a few indoor) shots of the bride and groom, the families, and the wedding party.

This was one of the most joy filled receptions I have had the privilege of photographing… and on top of that it was so beautiful… the whole place seemed bathed in a golden glow…

As the festivities continue, pay special attention to the Father Daughter dance. It was terribly sweet and then this sassy duo broke into a Latin dance that should have been on Dancing with the Stars… so, so lovely… and so much fun!

What an amazing night! When I think back on Mercedes and Jason’s big day, I remember love, laughter, tenderness and a lot of joyful emotion… oh and dancing… lots and lots of dancing. The couple now reside in Florida and I am thinking that Celeste and I may have to take a trip some time in the future to revisit this couple with our cameras. Much love to you both! XO

COLLYN IN THE SUNSHINE

This session with the stunning Collyn Robison is just so lovely and so full of light that I couldn’t resist sharing it on this cold January day. There are people that the camera loves… and Collyn is certainly one of them. Her smile just fills the frame and draws you in. Not to mention her lovely eyes, perfectly arched brows… and that hair… I mean this girl is a beauty. I can also attest that she is smart, kind, and humble, and so much fun to be around. She’s heading to the University of Texas in Austin in the fall, carrying on the Longhorn tradition that is very much a part of her family. Collyn and her mom Sally spent an afternoon at the Shops at Legacy with Celeste and I and we were fortunate to have that coveted golden light. Check out the results… I’m pretty crazy about these images.

Whenever I do a session with a senior I love seeing their clothing choices… being a fashion addict myself, I know the power of a good outfit… and Collyn’s choices were fabulous. The heels on her shoes are a killer ombre metallic… take note ladies.

These images with Collyn in this dreamy white in one of my favorite spots with wavy golden grass are so ethereal… I just love them. They are stylish, bohemian, and happy all at the same time. I have a feeling Collyn is going to make quite a splash at UT.

THE STUNNING WHITEMAN FAMILY

David, Exa and Bailey Whiteman are really beautiful people… and I know this can sound trite, but they really are equally beautiful within. They are one of my favorite families to photograph because we always have fun and also probably because the images always turn out to be stunning. They are just photogenic, that’s all there is to it. Also… David’s sister Cathy is one of my very best friends… and their whole wonderful extended family is in many ways like my family so when we are together it is always a joy. David is a very talented musician and singer and has his own band, The David Whiteman Band. I’ve photographed the band on a couple of occasions and let me tell you they are fabulous! You really have to experience them for yourself… they can really engage a crowd and raise the roof in the best possible way! He is also a Firefighter at Dallas Fire Rescue… and firefighters have always been among my heroes. Exa is a Director at AT&T and is a busy, stylish career woman and mom, who loves to run and play golf… and Bailey is definitely the star of their show. She has obviously inherited her mother’s beauty and her Dad’s talent. They are such a loving family and I think it really shows in these images. The way David looks at Exa is pretty amazing for a married couple, isn’t it ladies? I mean… wow.

I did two separate sessions with this family and boy was it worth it. The first was on a rather warm, ok uncomfortably hot… summer day… and the second was on an absolutely gorgeous fall afternoon with golden light. We shot during that magic afternoon hour, right before the sun goes down that makes everyone look lovely… although these three don’t really need any help in that department.

It was a special second shoot for another reason as well, because Exa’s sister Tiffany and her adorable baby Dallas came along for some shots as well. He is so cute that you just want to immediately pick him up and kiss him and squeeze him… I defy you to look at these images and tell me you don’t agree.

Everyone had so much fun playing with Dallas… and when Uncle David played airplane with him, Bailey had to get in on the action too… and the images are priceless. I like almost nothing better than photographing happy couples, families, extended families and friends experiencing joy and laughter… and when you catch it on film it’s like gold.

I took the Whiteman’s to one of my favorite little spots with wispy grass and great light… lovely spot for a lovely family…

Bailey is so sweet with her cousin Dallas… and these images are some of my favorites… the colors, the light and the tenderness between them make these photos special.

I’m already looking forward to the next chance I get to photograph these friends again. Thanks David, Exa, Bailey, Tiffany and Baby Dallas for a really wonderful afternoon… one of my favorite sessions ever!

AUGUST SHOOT IN THE AFTERNOON LIGHT…

Every now and again Celeste and I venture out to do a shoot together… scouting out new locations for clients and in the process hopefully getting some new shots of each other in the process. Yesterday the temperatures were typical for an August afternoon in Texas, the residents of Hades would have felt at home…but nevertheless we donned our heels and braved the hills and roadsides… all for our art. Here are the results.

The afternoon light was absolutely golden… and the thing I love about my daughter is that she doesn’t even blink an eye when asked to walk along a busy street wearing heels to get a great shot… or to make her way gingerly down a steep hill in those same heels for another. I guess being raised by a crazy photographer mother has permanent effects to the personality.

I always like to mix urban elements with natural beauty…

MERCEDES AND JASON SO HAPPILY ENGAGED

If you googled amazingly attractive and photogenic couple, I am quite sure that an image of these two would pop up. Each and every image of them I took is beautiful. I suppose there is more to it than just attractiveness because Mercedes and Jason are undoubtedly happy… in fact they absolutely radiate with it. I had so much fun spending the afternoon with these two. We started at the Shops at Legacy and moved to a nearby field golden with wheat blowing in the wind… which I absolutely love, and ended in another favorite spot near a lovely little body of water. It is true that we were blessed with an absolutely luminous afternoon light, but regardless of this these two really make their own light. Sometimes you have to coax romance out of a couple in front of the camera… which is totally understandable, but with Mercedes and Jason there was no need to coax. For them it is as natural as breathing… and they don’t mind the world looking on.

I always ask the couples I photograph how they met, and I love hearing their stories. Mercedes was working at a hotel in Florida, where Jason happened to be visiting… and I can only assume that the man took one look at her and knew that he wanted to get to know her much better. That is where it all started, and here we are today, a little over a month before their wedding. I can’t wait to photograph their wedding, which it to be held at the La Cima Club… the photos are bound to be as love filled and joyful as these. What could be better?

I want to take the time to give kudos to Jason… I mean talk about a guy with a great attitude about photos! He is a smart man and knows that a happy fiance’ makes for a happy existence… or maybe he just enjoyed gazing at his future bride. I wish every fiance’ and groom were as obliging. He’s really making it hard for all the men who follow.

Mercedes I will see you soon to make some beautiful bridal portraits together… next step, the wedding at La Cima! Can’t wait you two!
